HMD Global, the brand which is licensed to use the Nokia name, introduced two new smartphones yesterday at an event in Karachi. One is their latest flagship, the Nokia 8 and the other one is their most competitively priced offering, Nokia 2. Despite differences in hardware between the two phones, HMD Global has promised to provide the best experience possible available in each phone’s respective price bracket. We have already been impressed by the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, it is no doubt that these phones would have to fill in big shoes.
Nokia 8 is a very unique launch for the brand. HMD Global, till now, has only released smartphones priced very competitively. Entering in the flagship space, Nokia 8 is the first of its kind from HMD Global. It contains the latest and greatest 2017 hardware – Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB RAM and dual back cameras. The launch event shed light on how Nokia 8 is equipped with some amazing audio recording technology – OZO spatial audio. The phone can focus on a certain sound source and amplify that.
The other phone that shared the spotlight was the Nokia 2. This smartphone is the entry level offering which is available at a very low price. During the launch event, it was showcased how HMD Global was able to squeeze the 2-day battery life from the Nokia 2 and how Nokia 2 offers premium external materials even at this price point.
